This week in social studies, we learned about origin stories in class. After learning about what an origin story is, students had the opportunity to choose two origin stories from various cultures to explore. We took notes on the origin stories and shared the stories out with the class. Next week, we will begin to look at how investigative skills are important to historical thinking. Announcements

In social studies, we began to learn about the concept of a timeline. As a class, we discussed the components of a timeline as well as how to create a timeline ourselves. We also discussed the difference between B.C.E and C.E. After learning about timelines, we applied the information as we created timelines of our own lives in class. Timelines not completed in class will be due on Tuesday, September 3rd. Announcements
Today in social studies, we used the Big History website to take a preassessment in class. Students demonstrated their ability to make a historical claim and support the claim with evidence and reasoning. Tomorrow we will begin to learn about timelines! Announcements
This week in class, we tied up some loose ends and began to learn about Chromebook procedures. After completing the getting-to-know-you games that we started last week, we went over how to use Chromebooks appropriately and learned about Chromebook procedures specific to our classroom. We also signed up for our Google Classroom and Big History accounts and took a survey about Big History. Announcements
Today in social studies, we took time to get to know each other by playing some getting-to-know-you games in class. After learning more about our peers, we went over our class syllabus for social studies to learn about classroom procedures, activities, and expectations. Syllabi will need to be signed by a guardian and returned next week. Next week we will also sign up to use our Big History accounts. Announcements
Welcome back to school! It's the first day of 6th grade and students were busy getting used to the feel of a new school today. We engaged in a variety of activities including locker practice, binder set-up, school tours, expectations review, and more! Tomorrow we will continue to get acclimated to middle school through more activities. Announcements
