On Friday in social science we wrapped up our study of the land and structures (including tombs) of ancient Egypt. Students had the opportunity to view a Journals Through History clip on life in ancient Egypt. Following this, students wrote their very own journal entries from the point of view of an ancient Egyptian. Next week we will begin to study the Old Kingdom in more detail. Today in class we began to learn about ancient Egyptian mummification practices more in depth by trying it out for ourselves! Students had the opportunity to mummify a chicken as a class. Today we began the process - we will return to check on the chicken weekly and to continue the mummification process. This is a fun lesson in science as well as in social studies! Tomorrow we will wrap up our discussion of mummification, Egyptian structures and tombs. Announcements / Upcoming Events
On Wednesday in social science students learned about the Egyptian pyramids. Students read about how the pyramids were made and discussed the process as a class. Students also worked in small groups to analyze primary sources relating to the significance of the pyramids. Tomorrow we will begin to examine ancient Egyptian mummification practices. Today in class we wrapped up our analysis of Egyptian obelisks. We also completed our notes on Egyptian geography and worked on a vocabulary builder to strengthen our understanding of this content. Tomorrow we will move on to look at the Egyptian pyramids. Later this week we will begin to discuss mummification and students will have the opportunity to apply ancient Egyptian mummification practices for themselves as each class works on mummifying a chicken! Today in social science students continued to examine how the ancient Egyptians built obelisks. Student viewed and discussed a documentary that presents various theories on how these structures were built and tests the theories for students to analyze. Tomorrow we will wrap up our discussion of obelisks and review the land of Egypt before moving on to study mummification. Announcements / Upcoming Events
