Today 6th grade students took the ACT Aspire test in class. Students stayed in their 4th hour classes for the exam. Tomorrow students will resume their normal schedule and we will begin our analysis of Otzi the Iceman in social science class. Announcements / Upcoming Events

Today social science classes welcomed a guest speaker from Spurlock Museum. Mrs. Kim Sheahan lead our classes in a variety of activities relating to artifacts she brought with her from different ancient cultures that we will be studying throughout the year. Students will reexamine these artifacts at the end of the year once they have learned more about the cultures to which they belong. Tomorrow we will have ACT Aspire testing in class. Today is the 13th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. After reviewing this important day in history, students watched and discussed a remembrance video on 9/11. Students were also introduced to Unit 2: Archaeology and Early Humans. Students took notes on early hominids and identified hominid skull recreations in class. Announcements / Upcoming Events
Our assessment over what we have learned during our first unit of the year (Unit 1: Introduction to the Social Sciences) is today. Students will be responding to a variety of short-response, multiple-choice, matching,and fill-in-the-blank questions as well as questions testing map skills. The exam is open-note and will be counted as a major grade. Tomorrow we will begin our next unit: Archaeology and Early Humans. Announcements / Upcoming Events
Today in class students learned about the 5 Themes of Geography and what each theme entails. Students viewed an interactive presentation on the 5 themes and watched a short video on the themes. Students followed along and took notes on a guided note sheet. Tomorrow we will review what we have learned in Unit 1: Introduction to the Social Sciences in preparation for Wednesday's open-note assessment. Announcements / Upcoming Events
Today the sixth grade Leaders students went to Lake of The Woods in Mahomet for the Pond Field Trip! Students observed organisms in the water, learned about different plant and animals at the pond, and participated in team-building activities. Next week we will be wrapping up our introduction to the social sciences (history, economy, geography, culture and government) in class and we will begin reviewing for the Unit 1 Assessment. On Wednesday in social science, students completed their notes on the study of history, archaeology, and types of historical sources. Students began to review these topics by completing vocabulary builders relating to the study of history. For the rest of the week, we will be focusing on the study of geography.
