Boston Massacre Lesson Plan
Performance Indicator 4: The competent teacher develops a variety of clear, accurate presentations and representations of concepts, using alternative explanations to assist students' understanding and presenting diverse perspectives to encourage critical and creative thinking;
During my enrollment in CI 402: Teaching in Diverse Middle Grade Students, I collaborated with two other members of my cohort to create an interactive and informative lesson plan on the Boston Massacre. The lesson includes looking at a variety of sources and perspectives, both primary and secondary, in order to get a balanced view on the events of the Boston Massacre. Bias and representation of fact is also examined within the sources in order to encourage the use of critical thinking skills by students. The lesson not only teaches students about the Boston Massacre, but also shows students how history can be told in a variety of ways due to the diverse perspectives involved.

Reflection on Boston Massacre Lesson Plan
This lesson plan on the Boston Massacre is a demonstration of Standard Five of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards: Instructional Delivery. I chose this lesson plan to represent my ability to do this because it includes a variety of differentiated instructional techniques suited for a variety of learners, and also teaches students to use critical thinking skills by analyzing various diverse perspectives. Students look at a variety of sources, both visual and textual, on the Boston Massacre. These sources include multiple perspectives, and each of them presents the events of the Boston Massacre in a unique way. The lesson plan is an appropriate representation of this standard because it delivers content in an effective way. The variety of sources presented allows both visual and auditory learners to take in the information effectively. Looking at all of the different sources also shows students how history can be subjective, and allows them to employ critical thinking skills as they analyze biases and motivations behind these biases within the different sources presented.
The Boston Massacre lesson plan testifies to my growth as a teacher - I was able to collaborate with colleagues and create an effective presentation of the events of the Boston Massacre, while at the same time planning activities that challenge students and require them to do more than memorize facts and events. This shows how I have grown in my ability to integrate the teaching of information with teaching of skills, such as reading comprehension, the ability to look at multiple perspectives, and the ability to recognize bias. Through teaching this lesson plan, I have found that it really engages students and lets them enjoy analyzing various groups' perspectives. In effect, the lesson is a direct representation of how I have grown throughout my time in the teacher education program at the University of Illinois.

VoiceThread TutorialPerformance Indicator 5: The competent teacher uses strategies and techniques for facilitating meaningful inclusion of individuals with a range of abilities and experiences;
In the course of my CI 335: Educational Technology class, I created a video tutorial of how to use VoiceThread. This video tutorial was created with the use of Jing, and allows students to learn how to use VoiceThread for themselves. Upon watching this tutorial, students will be able to use VoiceThread to create presentations and discourses on subjects of their choosing.

Reflection on Voice Thread Tutorial
This Voice Thread tutorial illustrates my ability to meet Standard Five of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards: Instructional Delivery. By creating a tutorial video using Jing, I was able to showcase my growth and competence in instructional delivery. I chose to use this video because it illustrates how I use various strategies and techniques in order to create meaningful learning experiences for students with diverse abilities and experiences. The video instructs students on how to create a VoiceThread project. VoiceThread is a technological tool that allows users to create visual presentations and comment on them. After choosing a variety of images to use, comments in the form of text, audio, and webcam footage can be incorporated into the presentation.
Using this tool allows students with a range of abilities and backgrounds to create meaningful educational presentations. Not only is VoiceThread very user friendly, but this tutorial is a clear explanation of how to use this tool, making the tutorial an appropriate representation of this standard. It allows all students to become familiar with VoiceThread, and use it to their advantage in the future. Another benefit of VoiceThread is that users can comments on others’ presentations. This means that students can respond to their classmates’ presentations, and make different viewpoints heard within it. As a whole, learning how to use Jing and VoiceThread has helped me grow as a teacher by providing me with tools and strategies to use in creating meaningful learning experiences for students with a range of experiences and abilities.
