Reflection on Global Citizenship and Global Perspectives Lesson
This lesson plan and presentation on global citizenship and global perspectives in history is a demonstration of my ability to meet Standard One of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards: Teaching Diverse Students. This artifact shows how I use students' prior knowledge and experiences to make new concepts and ideas more applicable to their lives. All of the information presented in the lesson relates to what the students already know, and is relevant to their lives. I chose this lesson plan to use as an artifact because not only is it meant to teach a diverse group of students, but it also advocates respect for diversity in the classroom. By presenting the importance of being a global citizen and teaching students to look at historical events from different cultural perspectives, it requires students to practice tolerance as well as critical thinking skills throughout the lesson.
Due to the fact that this lesson can relate to a diverse group of students and wide range of prior experiences, it is an appropriate reflection of being able to teach diverse students. The lesson takes current events as well as common knowledge, such as the existence of Columbus Day, and uses them to get students to think analytically about various global perspectives on these events. It also asks students to use their diverse existing ideas on the subject of global citizenship, and express as well as adapt these ideas during the course of the lesson. By asking students to take on the perspectives of various groups of people, it also encourages respect and tolerance for people around the world. This lesson plan strongly reflects my growth as a teacher. Throughout my training as a teacher, I have learned more about making lessons relevant and engaging to students with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. Doing this requires not only the ability to use all students' prior knowledge and experiences in a productive way which stimulates learning, but also personal reflection on the part of the teacher on how to do this in the most effective and positive way possible.

It links to the learning styles of visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learners while also building on to students' prior knowledge. The lesson plan includes graphic organizers, images, and textual information to reach a broad variety of students.

Reflection on Renaissance Lesson Plan
This lesson plan on the Renaissance era is a demonstration of Standard One of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards: Teaching Diverse Students. This is a lesson that engages auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners all at once while employing various strategies and materials in order to engage a wide range of learners. I chose this lesson plan as a demonstration of my ability to teach a diverse group of students because I created it with diverse classroom in mind. I taught this lesson at a school in a small urban community with a very ethnically and racially diverse group of students, and I used various resources in order to be able to reach all of these students. For example, by providing a Prezi presentation, a video, and an interactive handout I was able to teach more students effectively because this made my lesson understandable to students of all learning styles.
I feel that this lesson plan is an appropriate representation of this standard because it uses a plethora of methods to connect with diverse learners. I included references to students' prior knowledge, provided visual aids, used both textual and visual modes of presentation, and allowed students to learn by creating in their assignment to make their own Renaissance art. As a whole, this lesson plans reflects how I have grown as a teacher and how I have learned to use much more than just one style of presenting information and engaging students. I have become more aware of how differently each student takes in information, and have begun to tailor my lessons plans to meet the needs of these diverse learners.
